Yin & Yang
Yin and yang is a concept originating in ancient Chinese philosophy that describes two opposing but interconnected forces that are interdependent and complementary. It's often depicted as a circle divided into black and white halves, with a swirl shape separating them.
The black side is yin, and the white side is yang.
Yin (black) is associated with:
Earth
Femaleness
Darkness
Passivity
Absorption
Yang (white) is associated with:
Heaven
Maleness
Light
Activity
Penetration
These forces are not seen as opposites, but rather as two sides of the same coin. They are constantly interacting and changing, and one cannot exist without the other. For example, day cannot exist without night, and hot cannot exist without cold.
The yin and yang symbol is a reminder that everything in the universe is constantly changing and evolving. It is also a reminder that we need to find balance in our lives. Just as yin and yang need each other to exist, we need to embrace both the positive and negative aspects of ourselves and the world around us.
